RE: Search Index Rebuild
Search index now rebuilt, it took a while and towards the end i did get an error message come up.
But all seams Ok and maybe down to the size of the records, had to refresh due to slow site and have advised members to do like wise. But all seems well and will now monitor how site goes and think error message was at the end of rebuild. Now showing 559,400 records compared to the first post so quite a reduction ![]() Oh and the size has been reduced from 416mb to 26mb which has reduced the sites database quite a bit

RE: Search Index Rebuild
Just an update:
All is running well on the site and by doing this i have reduced the overhang and file size considerably. Backed up table, emptied it out in Cpanel and the rebuilt in forum admin panel. Now we know this works fine on a WowClassic ( Wowbb ) based board.

RE: Search Index Rebuild
In theory this should work on any forum. However, theory and practice often differ :|

RE: Search Index Rebuild
Curious if you do not mind. What is the advantage to doing this? Is it to speed up the forum search function or does it have to do with search bots scouring through the data?
Thanks. Chris Walker MyBB Newbie! |

RE: Search Index Rebuild
It helps by shrinking your database's size. It will also speed up newer searches by making that table operate faster, however, all old searches will be gone and thus have to be reindexed. Since many boards don't properly reindex (leading to multiple entries for the same keywords) this isn't a bad thing.

RE: Search Index Rebuild
Thanks for the info Dylan. Much appreciated. One more question if you do not mind. Since this would cause the old searches to have to be reindexed, I would guess this would affect any links within exsisting post that reference a search result link. Would that be correct? I think you answered that in your reply, but just want to make sure I understand it correct.
I often encourage my forum members to use the search function before asking a question, or if their answer can be found using the search function then I often include a link to the search results on the subject. So effectively these links would no longer point to anything? Chris Walker MyBB Newbie! |

RE: Search Index Rebuild
It depends, can you post me an example of such a link? I know this is true of MyBB, but not sure on WowBB because I don't know how those links work.
