Info on Converting Your Board

There are several steps you will need to do to get your board prepared for me to convert.

1. Post your request for merger by making a NEW topic ASAP - It's the "waiting list" of sorts. First come first served!
2. You need to obtain a copy of the MyBB Merger System - http://www.mybboard.net/downloads/merge-system
3. Purchase the WowBB to MyBB Merger Module©
4. Follow the instructions listed below OR
5. Ask us to prepare your board and get you converted - Does NOT include installing MyBB and setting that up. "Prepare" is for the board that is being converted.
   

This merger only works in conjunction with the MyBB Merger System and is not included in this folder. Please follow the instructions carefully in “Installation / step 1”

We cannot guarantee a clean merger on any WowBB boards that have been modified outside the original code of the software.

This merger is for MyBB 1.4.x and MyBB Merger System 1.4 Beta 5. It will not merge your board for older versions of MyBB.

The following is for WowBB, WowClassic, & UltraBB conversions:

Please note that WowBB boards that have been converted FROM another system MUST be merged by us. This MUST be a custom merger due to the mess that Wow creates when they converted the board. It is a time consuming process to sort out and the rate is $50 / first hour and $10 for every hour thereafter to do this custom merge.

NOTE: for this merger “MyBB_Root” refers to your freshly installed MyBB board.

Let's begin! (it’s not as hard as it seems!)

Back up your database for your WowBB, WowClassic or UltraBB site. You can find how to back up your databases on Skin City Designs’ forum here: http://www.skincitydesigns.com/bb/thread-65.html
I cannot stress the importance of backing up your databases and files! Save these in a SAFE place on your computer’s hard drive.

Now you’ll have to move the files for your Wow based board to a new location on your server via ftp so we can install your new MyBB board. *This is only necessary if you have your board and no other parts to your website.

To do this, open your FTP client and navigate to your board folder. Make a NEW folder and call it whatever you want. Make sure you copy only the board files and not any extra files and folders you added to enhance your site.

Now you need to download the config.php file to your desktop and keep it there for a few minutes. We need to make some changes to this to preserve the forum in it’s new location.
Move ALL the files from your forum to the NEW folder you just made and in your config.php,

find:
define("BASE_DIR", ""); <--this is if your forum is in the root directory, it will look like this.
define("BASE_DIR", “/forums”); <-- if it’s in it’s own folder on your site it will look like this. No need to do any of the above!

Now change define("BASE_DIR", ""); to define("BASE_DIR", "/YOUR NEW FOLDER NAME HERE");

Save and re-upload the config.php file to the new location of your Wow based board and navigate there, check things are working fine and we can proceed with the merger.

If you forum is in a folder (like you see in the WowBB instructions above), What you’re going to need to do is make a new folder for your new Mybb board and call it whatever you like. Please use all lower case letters.

Install your new MyBB forum and give yourself an admin name that is different than the one you have already on your Wow based board.

OPTIONAL SET UP:

You can set up nearly everything except:

Users
User groups
Forums
Categories

But it is advised to let this all go until after you merge in case there are issues. If you are good at this stuff, you’ll be able to fix issues yourself.

This is all you need to do to prepare your new MyBB board.
